Oyster Labs announced they would release a smartphone based on the TON blockchain and raising $1.2m in pre-orders, they haven’t shipped a single unit.

Since the Solana Mobile’s launch, some companies have tried to emulate the success by releasing crypto phones of their own and Oyster Labs is one of them. The only difference is that while the Solana Mobile already shipped out, with it already being on its second version, Oyster Labs has yet to release a single pre-sold unit.

Oyster Labs recently announced a TON blockchain-based smartphone, raising $1.2m in pre-orders in April. Despite being sold out, the smartphones haven’t, and the team hasn’t provided a specific delivery date for the devices.

The only thing the buyers received so far was 12k Founder NFTs.

As some buyers have started to become skeptical, the TON Foundation has officially distanced itself from the project, telling buyers to be cautious.

As of May 8, Oyster Labs’ latest update on Telegram provided a new way for users to update their orders without the need to contact support.

As of press time, it remains to be seen when Oyster Labs will release the smartphones or what would happen to those who pre-ordered the Universal Basic Smartphone (UBS) which costs $129 (including delivery).
