The anticipated HBO documentary titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery” claims Peter Todd is the real Satoshi Nakamoto, previously thought to be Len Sassaman.
Peter Todd, a 39-year-old Canadian software developer who worked as a Linux system support and service Starnix developer, bought his first Bitcoin when the price was 20 cents. Since July 2014, Todd has been a Bitcoin Core Developer at Coinkite, and is among the few persons publicly documented to have communicated with Satoshi.
Evidence cited:
- In a 2010 BitcoinTalk post, Todd “accidentally” continued Nakamoto’s sentence
- In another 2013 BitcoinTalk post, Todd claimed he was Satoshi, although no evidence or explanation was given.
- A conspiracy of “leaked” emails claimed Roger Ver said Peter Todd worked for a CIA, possibly representing Bitcoin or implementing code changes in the agency’s favor.
- In 2001, Todd exchanged emails about electronic cash with Hal Finny, an early Bitcoin contributor.
- In a 2019 interview, Todd said, “I am Satoshi, as is everyone else.”
- Introduced replace-by-fee (RBF) as a feature in the Bitcoin protocol in 2014.
