From being skeptical of crypto to finally embracing it, Trump has changed his crypto views in the span of just 5 years.

The first time that then-US President Donald Trump commented about crypto was in 2019 when he expressed his criticisms, saying he wasn’t a fan. A lot has changed since then and in a recent video, the now-presidential candidate can be seen addressing questions around crypto.

The first statement on crypto that Trump made was to address a question regarding how some crypto companies are moving out of the US due to the hostility. The candidate said he didn’t like the hostility and said, “if we’re going to embrace it, we have to let them be here.”

In a follow-up to the question, Trump was asked if he was for crypto to which he replied that he was fine with it and that US President Joe Biden didn’t even know what it was.

“If you’re in favor of crypto, you better vote for Trump.”

Trump also recently said he would be accepting campaign donations in crypto.

Here’s the evolution of Donald Trump’s view and involvement in crypto:

  • July 2019 — Said he wasn’t a fan of crypto.
  • Dec 2021 — Said he never loved crypto, calling it “dangerous.”
  • Dec 2022 — Launched the Trump Digital Trading Cards, which sold out for $4.45m.
  • April 2023 — Released a second round of Trump NFTs.

  • March 2024 — Described Bitcoin as an “additional form of currency” in a CNBC interview.
