The attorneys of former Binance CEO CZ want him to go to SeaTac, could this be a ploy to move him elsewhere?
Former CEO and founder CZ has been sentenced to four months in prison as part of Binance’s settlement with the SEC. His attorneys recommend SeaTac, a Federal Detention Center located in Washington.
Location: 2425 S 200th St, Seattle, WA 98198, United States
Number of inmates: 858
Capacity: 1,000
SeaTac also primarily holds pre-trial and pre-sentence detainees and holdover inmates. Inmates are either placed in two-person cells or dormitories. The prison was said to have Level 2 Health Care and Mental Health Care.
However, in the case against CZ, former SeaTac warden Robert J Palmquist described the prison as being risky for CZ, saying he could become a victim of theft and extortion.
The former warden described the prison as being understaffed, saying there were less than the ideal number of 120 correctional officers needed for safety, recently only having 55 staff with some officers working 16-hour shifts.
“Thus, if Mr. Zhao is sentenced to serve a term of incarceration at FDC SeaTac… Mr. Zhao would also be at risk of extortion and violence due to his perceived wealth and public profile, and BOP’s current practices are insufficient to fully protect him from such threats.”
SeaTac: A Strategy to Move CZ?
Some suggest that the attorneys’ recommendation of SeaTac could be a tactic to get the Bureau of Prisons to decide on a different location.
The Federal Detention Center in SeaTac (FDC SeaTac) had some controversies, including an inmate, Roxanna Brown, dying in prison and Clayton Roueche, another inmate, being transferred to a different detention center in Marion, Illinois, after an assassination plot against him was discovered.
